mariah pops back onto the radar this week, swooping in for janet to take over snl...i'm actually watching right now as i pack to head to boston. yes, it's true she has no acting skills to speak of, but you have to love her because she is so absurd and totally unashamed! she's getting props for looking mad skinny on tv, but i'm not pleased with these tracks from the album! she had better have a "we belong together" on the b-side!

5. britney

tv also gives britney a boost and her first appearance on the divameter!!! way to go, brit! i'm so pleased she's getting her life together, with her rehearsals on how you met your mother, her un-deranged shopping, and most importantly, clean weaves. and in true diva style, as a result of her, a bunch of people are getting fired from the ucla medical center for snooping in her records. i'm sure she didn't call for it...but only a diva could cause a round of mass firings....way to go!

madonna shoots up a spot this week due to her promo pics for the new single, shot of the album cover, and general hotness. i'm really feeling the new record and can't wait to hear the whole album. unfortunately, i cannot say the same for mariah's upcoming set...let's hope that mimi steps her game up to match madge (sad lamb)!!!

2. beyonce

beyonce was missing last week, and she must have gotten a tip off! she reappeared in top form for this divameter, on the set of her new film. even the dock for "film w/o talent" didn't phase this diva, whose new venture along with yet another film venture this summer, throw her into the spotlight.

tink shares the second spot with bee this week. she gets bonus points for not being overexposed. i like how she knows how to keep a good balance. promote when you have to promote, then sit your ass down. she also gets mad props for chillin with her boo chris brown. divas only have the best boos! best believe!

according to the ny post:

just when you thought the coast was clear, beyonce lays down the smackdown. according to ew.com, everybody's fave songstress will be not only starring in a new film, cadillac records, but also executive producing it. well, i'd heard rumors of this for some time - at least the playing etta james part, but i didn't know that she was "executive producing," too.

no matter. executive producer is a titular role that basically just gives someone credit for being involved and lures people into being interested in the film. there is no substance to the job beyond vanity.

that aside, it'll be interesting to see how much she claims she "stretches herself" to play etta james.

6 out of 10. it's on that "it's like that" level, only it never quite reaches that exciting point. no fun bridge. just a cute melody and vocal riffs. ooook. sounds like a t-pain leftover. MIMI WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME! I HAVE BEEN A PATIENT LAMB FOR A LONG TIME AND NOW I JUST WANT TO CRY.

oh AMERIE. yes, you're allowed to hit up ny fashion week, too. i'm really proud of you for showing your face given your recent trials with creating music that people want to listen to. however, please know that you are officially a DID.

you know, sometimes i get really annoyed with DIDs (divas in distress). a DID, in case you are not aware, is a diva who suffers from at least 3 of the following symptoms:

1. album has been recorded and repeatedly pushed back
2. has not had a charted single in over 18 months
3. is stuck in a style rut that cannot be lifted by merely switching up the hair color or losing weight
4. all recorded music recently released sounds exactly like everything that preceded it
5. never established a proper female fan base and therefore struggles to make herself relevant.

i will not blow up amerie's spot about which of these symptoms she suffers from - however, let's just say she had better put down the clairol and pick up her pitch.

how about working with a producer who is relevant? no funds left in your budget??? take a cue from joss stone!

expect much, much, much more drams from mimi this spring. apparently the album's not due til april and the single has been pushed back, but mimi is already soaking up the spotlight, browsing in van cleef and arpels, etc. she is simply giving us a reminder that she is the hdic (head diva in charge).

2. rihanna - 95

rihanna flew over the competition, including beyonce (who didn't even make the top 5 - dunno if it's a blessing or a curse). she was buoyed by the nrj win and an ok makeover. her general beastliness and holding pattern on the bb 200 don't hurt either.

1. janet - 100

janet. ms. jackson if you're nasty comes in hot and nasty this week with feedback (heavy like a first day period. don't get it twisted.). feedback is hot. the video is fire. i hope discipline doesn't disappoint and that she can really wrangle all she can out of this album - but, if not, i'm sure tyler perry will be glad to have her back!
